A MENTAL MINUTE
The MIND GYM QUESTION for this column has
two parts.
Part I: What kind of salad is your family?
Part II: Exactly which ingredient in this salad represents you, the father?
Are you the zesty crouton adding crunch to a warm spinach salad nicoise? Are you the bleu
cheese dressing holding all the pieces of a simple dish of
iceberg lettuce and tomatoe wedges together? Perhaps you are the light olive oil, coating
all with only a subtle presence? Or the organic carrot that's
high on vitamins and crunch but, perhaps, low on unique flavor. You could be an underrated
radish, or the thick ring of purple bermuda onion dominating taste, smell, and sight.
Give thought to who you are as a father.
Not just
as an identity, but as a catalyst contributing to the ultimate flavor of the whole dish.
