Three months ago
she told me
the news
now she's big
I'm basking in the joy,
a proud
father to be.

Hand in hand
we walk in the park
dropping names
too cute or distinguished.
I'm feeling the thrill
of anticipation,
a proud
father to be.

Evening comes
and after dinner
we sit on the fire escape. I'm holding them
in my arms!
another sunset
closer to my
daughter or my son,
I'm a proud
father to be.

Blessed night
she lies so still,
I'm resting in curious fascination
my ear on her
warm smooth belly.
I felt the baby move!
I'm such a proud father to be.
