Volcanic

How like a volcanic amaze was my pa!
In youth wild eruptions leaked lava and stuff
and made him a mountain hot, volatile, rough;
and all around trembled, excepting my ma!

Of craters on fire, none burned fiercer than he,
none surpassed his ambition, none stood to his gleam.
With magmatic rage and a lover's pent steam
he ruled others with ease, but not mother-not she!

Enduring those years with a granitic will,
she clothed him in green while age whitened his top.
Both made him majestic. Today all men stop
and admire, though within he is smouldering still.
