Crunchy Pumpkin Seeds

If kids have never tried toasted pumpkin seeds, add this recipe to your Halloween fun, and make your own. Toast the seeds by following these easy steps.

Servings: Depends on how big a pumpkin you have!

Ingredients:

Seeds from one Halloween pumpkin
1 teaspoon salt for each cup of seeds

1. CHILD/
PARENT STEP:

Carve Halloween pumpkin. Scoop out the pulp that contains the seeds, and place it in a large bowl.
2. CHILD STEP: Transfer the pulp into a large colander. Wash the pulp and stringy matter off the seeds under cold running water. Blot the seeds dry with a clean paper towel.
3. CHILD STEP: Spread the seeds on a cookie sheet so that they are in a single layer and do not touch each other.
4. CHILD STEP: Sprinkle the seeds with salt.
5. CHILD/
PARENT STEP:

Bake in 350° F oven. Check after 12 minutes to see if seeds are dry and light brown. (Cooking time depends on the amount of seeds and how dry they are when put in the oven.)
6. CHILD STEP: Enjoy for a crunchy snack!
